Position Available: General Superintendent/Project Manager – Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)

R-2 Contractors, Inc. is looking for a dedicated and experienced General Superintendent/Project Manager to lead our Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations. This role oversees all aspects of HDD activities across various geographic locations, ensuring quality execution, operational efficiency, and alignment with project goals. The ideal candidate will have a background in power infrastructure projects, and be comfortable managing multiple superintendents and job sites. This position also plays a key role in estimating, customer relations, and business development.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and optimize HDD drilling operations, ensuring efficient crew and equipment performance

• Coordinate closely with owners and clients to manage contracts and expectations

• Oversee multiple project sites and provide leadership to project superintendents

• Support estimating and preconstruction efforts for HDD scopes of work

• Build and maintain customer relationships and identify new business opportunities

• Ensure daily reporting, inventory control, and safety documentation are completed accurately

• Oversee maintenance and performance standards for HDD rigs and equipment

• Supervise rig site personnel and support rig mobilization efforts

• Maintain strict adherence to safety standards, JSA protocols, and housekeeping expectations

• Actively participate in safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations

• Provide mentorship, coaching, and guidance to HDD crews and field leaders

• Help define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders

Requirements:

Field experience in HDD or construction management

• Proven leadership and crew management experience in HDD projects

• Strong theoretical and practical project management skills

• Deep knowledge of HDD-specific equipment, tools, and techniques

• Proficiency in bore planning tools and HDD software

• Experience managing multiple crews and geographically spread project sites

• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and client service skills

• Strong background in safety, budgeting, and cost control practices

• Willingness to travel majority of the time – field/office based role, with an emphasis on field

Job Type:

Full-time

Pay Range:
$150,000 – $200,000/year DOE
